Mets-Phillies: 3 Takeaways From Second Annual MLB Little League Classic
On Sunday evening, the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies played in the second annual MLB Little League Classic.
In 2017, Major League Baseball began the MLB Little League Classic, an MLB game that takes place in Williamsport, PA for all the current little leaguers to watch. Last year, it was the Pittsburgh Pirates-St. Louis Cardinals. This year, the Philadelphia Phillies welcomed in the New York Mets.
The Mets wound up winning 8-4 over Philadelphia, led by 14 hits and a solid performance from starting pitcher Jason Vargas.
Below we’ll look at the coolest and most notable things from the event.
Great Seeing A-Rod in Such a Small Venue
Bowman Field, home of the Williamsport Crosscutters and MLB Little League Classic, is small, seating just over 2,000 people. So to see future Hall-of-Famer and current ESPN personality Alex Rodriguez there was just awesome. I mean, this guy dates J-Lo…the last place you’d expect to see him is in a sleepy Pennsylvania town. Yes, he was on the job but still, great to see him interacting with the kids. Jessica Mendoza and Matt Vasgersian were alongside him.

The Mets Can Hit Now?
The Mets banged out 14 hits and scored eight runs during the event. Just a few games ago, they put up 24 runs against the Phillies. The game before that? 16 runs against the Baltimore Orioles. How insane is this scenario? They’ve scored 59 runs in their last six games, almost 10 per contest.
We pound out 14 hits to back a strong start by Jason Vargas to take this year’s #LittleLeagueClassic, 8-2.

Cool That It’s Been PA Exclusive So Far
Last year, the Pirates were the home team. This time around, the Phillies were. Obviously, with Williamsport being in Pennsylvania, they’re opting for PA teams to get folks excited. Maybe this can be like Thanksgiving in the NFL. Instead of the Cowboys and Lions playing every year, though, the Pirates and Phillies will alternate each year.
