6-Part HBO True Crime Docuseries Premiering on June 28th
Michelle McNamara spent years of her life blogging about unsolved crimes and eventually landed a book deal. Before her book on the search for the Golden State Killer was published, she passed away tragically in her sleep. Her husband, comedian Patton Oswalt, recruited fellow sleuths to help finish the book and as a result, I’ll Be Gone in the Dark was published in 2018 to rave reviews.
Now the book is coming to HBO, the basis for a six-part true crime docuseries under the same name.
Critically-acclaimed documentarian Liz Garbus (Who Killed Garrett Phillips?, The Fourth Estate) directed multiple episodes, as did Josh Koury (Voyeur). Academy Award nominee Amy Ryan narrates parts of McNamara’s book throughout the docuseries.
The first episode of I’ll Be Gone in the Dark will premiere on June 28th at 10 p.m. ET. New episodes will be released each Sunday thereafter.
Patton Oswalt served as an executive producer for the project and is featured as an interview subject in the series.
There will also be a companion podcast produced alongside the docuseries.
