Alex Smith Favorite For Comeback Player of the Year Award
If you have not seen Project 11 on ESPN, you should stop what you’re doing and go check it out. Alex Smith legit almost lost his leg (and even life) after a gruesome 2018 injury. The official diagnosis was a spiral and compound fracture to his tibia and fibula, which led to 17 surgeries and a scary flesh-eating bacteria that had his bone showing. The pictures of his leg are extremely NSFW but Google at your own risk.
After all of that, Alex Smith fought his way back to Washington’s roster this year and eventually the field when Dwayne Haskins was benched and Kyle Allen was hurt. His first appearance in Week 5 didn’t result in amazing stats or anything (9-for-17, 37 yards) but the fact that he was on the field is a miracle in itself.
