Allen Iverson Caught Helping Young Sixers Team in Their First Playoff Game (Video)
Well, Allen Iverson is certainly hyped up about this young 76ers team. So much, in fact, that AI was caught by ESPN cameras helping out his “little guys” during a dead ball in Game 1 of their first-round series against the Miami Heat.
As it turns out, Iverson was trying to let the Sixers know that there were only three seconds left on the shot clock.
If you’ve followed Iverson’s career since he left the NBA, you’ve gotta fall in love with him all over again after seeing this clip. After all, he’s had a bunch of legal issues, gave a drunk interview at a 76ers’ game earlier in the year, and no-showed at a BIG 3 game in its inaugural season. Seeing him generally interested and engaged with this team is awesome.
As their most notable legend, you can imagine he’s going to be getting a lot of interviews and headlines if this team goes deep in the playoffs. He’ll have a chance to re-write his narrative a little bit and I really, really hope he does. This clip, plus the pleasant exchange he had with a young fan last week, show the good, charming side of AI — the side we want to remember. AI is an American institution and the world is better with him doing endearing things instead of the latter.
On a side note, it also looks like there was a solid lineup of rappers in the house for Game 1. Among them: Lil Uzi Vert, Freeway, and Asher Roth.
