Andrew Cashner Gives O’s Their First 7-Inning Outing in ’19

Andrew Cashner turned in a beautiful performance on Tuesday, scattering five hits across seven innings to help Baltimore beat the Chicago White Sox by a 9-1 score. The win was their first at Camden Yards since April 8th, snapping a four-game losing streak overall and a seven-game losing streak at home.

For Cashner, his seven-inning gem was the first of its kind for Baltimore this season. Before Tuesday, no Orioles’ starter had lasted more than 6.1 innings in an outing.

On April 1st, David Hess started and went 6.1 innings in a 6-5 win over Toronto.

Baltimore’s bullpen also performed well in the win. After Cashner left with a 9-1 lead, Paul Fry pitched a perfect eighth inning and Gabriel Ynoa pitched a scoreless ninth, his second scoreless inning since getting called up on April 21st.

Ynoa, it should be noted, missed all of 2018 after a solid nine-appearance stretch (4.15 ERA) with the O’s in 2017.

On offense, the O’s did their damage early off Chicago starter Ivan Nova, scoring one run in the second, three in the third, and five in the fourth. All nine starters besides Jesus Sucre recorded a hit, highlighted by home runs from Chris Davis, Renato Nunez, Dwight Smith Jr., and Joey Rickard.

Ironically, all 11 hits from the O’s came off Nova in the first four innings. Crazy, right?

Baltimore (9-16) will wrap their series up against the White Sox on Wednesday night before leaving the Charm City for a six-game road trip.
