Anthony Davis Using Injury to Work on His Reporting Skills
Anthony Davis took a nasty spill on Tuesday against the New York Knicks, forcing him out of the game. The Lakers eventually beat the Knicks 117-87, but Davis bruised his back and hasn’t played since, missing their wins over Dallas on Friday and Oklahoma City on Saturday. Arguably the deepest team in the NBA, the Lakers have plenty of guys who can step up in short-term situations to fill the gap left by Davis’ absence.
While he hasn’t suited up since hitting the deck against the Knicks, Davis is still around the team in street clothes. He can be seen cheering on his team, wearing nifty sweatshirt-blazer combos, and, of course, practicing his reporter skills.
Wait, what?!?
Nope, you read that right; Davis is the newest sideline reporter for Spectrum SportsNet, the official local provider of Lakers’ games in Los Angeles. Well, sort of.

In actuality, it was probably just a spur-of-the-moment idea to hijack the mic from their regular reporter, Allie Clifton, who was just outside of the shot. After Davis wrapped up his interview with Rajon Rondo, Clifton joked that it was his “best assist” all season. On Twitter, she doubled down, adding it was his “best assist AND BLOCK” all season.

Now 32-7 and the owner of the top seed in the West by five games, the Lakers will try to extend their eight-game winning streak at home against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday. Davis was a “game-time decision” on Saturday, so I’d expect him to be on the court this time around instead of stealing reporters’ interviews.
