AP Looked GREAT in Lions Debut; D’Andre Swift Did Not

The Detroit Lions took a 23-6 lead into the fourth quarter on Sunday against Chicago, only to fall apart in the final period and lose 27-23. It was as disheartening a loss as I’ve seen in a long time, especially since Mitchell Trubisky was the main dude stunting on them.

One thing they can pat themselves on the back for is the signing of Adrian Peterson. Yeah, this dude still has some gas in the tank. He busted off a 19-yard run on his first attempt in a Lions uniform — he looked weird in blue, not gonna lie — and continued with big runs as the game went on.

AP only ran the ball 14 times but nearly topped the 100-yard mark — he finished with 93 rushing yards. Plus, the future HOFer snagged three passes for 21 yards. He’s never been much of a pass-catcher so this is a good sign. If he has three catches in all 16 games, he’ll have a career-high in catches for the season (48). The most he’s ever had in one year was 40 back in 2012.

His 93-yard performance gives him 14,309 career rushing yards, fifth-most in NFL history.

For the last two seasons, AP has been doing his thing in Washington but they released him unexpectedly on September 4th. He hasn’t even been with Detroit for two weeks.

In other Lions running back news, it must be mentioned that rookie D’Andre Swift sort of blew the game. He dropped a sure touchdown pass with 0:08 on the clock that would have absolutely won the game. Check it out below.

Swift also averaged just 2.7 yards per rush on three attempts. He did record his first NFL touchdown, however.
