Atlanta Hawks: 3 Best Trae Young Performances

After his preseason game-winning three, we’re looking back on the college career of Atlanta Hawks rookie Trae Young.

Oh boy, here we go again. Just like last year when Trae Young threw the world into a frenzy at Oklahoma, the sharpshooter has NBA Twitter going crazy. On Wednesday, Young nailed a deep three-pointer with the game tied 127-127 to send the Atlanta Hawks to a win over the San Antonio Spurs. Check it out below and you’ll see why folks are going bonkers.

Yes, it was very deep, but he didn’t have much to lose since the game would have gone to OT anyway. Nevertheless, let’s look back at some of the games that drove the Trae Young hype train last year. I feel like it’s not right to include any losses so you won’t find Trae’s 48-point performance (a career high) against Oklahoma State. Here’s the video anyway.

November 26th, 2017 (90-80 win vs. Oregon)

This was Young’s fifth collegiate game and his first with 40-plus points. It came in Oklahoma’s final game in the Phil Knight Invitational, wrapping up a tournament that Young dominated. In the three non-campus games Oklahoma played, Young averaged 34.7 points while hitting 3.7 three-balls per game. After this game, the Steph Curry comparisons really started flowing…

December 19th, 2017 (105-68 win vs. Northwestern State)

Sure, the competition wasn’t great but the freshman absolutely went off. Not only did he score 26 points but he dropped 22 dimes. Yeah, 22…

For the record, this is the second YouTube highlight video comparing him to Steph in the video’s title.

January 30th, 2018 (98-96 win vs. Baylor)

This one was big because the hype had died down a bit. Immediately before this game — where he dropped 44 in a hard-fought Big-12 game — he was held to 17 points in a loss to Alabama. This performance, complete with six three-pointers and 16 made free-throws, sort of reignited the Trae Young hype.
