Baltimore Hoops Legend Gerald Brown, 34, Fatally Shot

Gerald Brown, a star high school and college basketball player from Baltimore, was shot and killed on Friday night in Northwest Baltimore.

The news led to many tributes on social media, including some from former Baltimore-born professional athletes Kim English (NBA) and Aaron Maybin (NFL).

“Whenever ppl asked me who were my favorite players growing up, I never hesitated… Carmelo, Marcus Hatten, Juan Dixon and Gerald Brown. Love you forever big bro.”

After a stellar prep career at Frederick Douglass HS in Baltimore, Brown went on to play Division-1 ball at Providence (’03-’05) and Loyola Maryland (’06-’08). He led the Greyhounds to back-to-back winning seasons in the two years he was there, leading the team in scoring each year. In a combined 62 games, Brown averaged 20.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game.

During his final season of college ball at Loyola Maryland, he went off for 30-plus points five different times.

Post-basketball, Brown was involved in comedy, according to The Baltimore Sun, where he performed stand-up and hosted comedy nights at different clubs in the city.
