(Video) Flex Hosts Styles P & Former DMV Baller Dave East For Hot 97 Freestyle
New York City hip-hop legend Styles P teamed up with Dave East for a freestyle on Hot 97 with Funk Flex.
If you weren’t aware, hip-hop legend Styles P has a new album out with baller-turned-rapper Dave East. The project, titled Beloved, hit the streets earlier this month and it’s totally legit. A new project means marketing, so it’s no surprise they’ve been making the rounds to all the promotional staples.
The latest stop for the duo was Hot 97 with Funk Flex. As you’d expect, they tore the house down.
STRAIGHT BARS!!!
And for how dope their verses were over Memphis Bleek/Prodigy beats, the Funk Flex intermission might have been my favorite part.
“Fuck you wack-ass, non-bar n****s!”
The video has “PART 1” in the title so maybe another one is dropping tomorrow? I sure hope so.
The duo’s album — Beloved — is 13 tracks of New York grit with minimal features. The one feature of note comes on the last track (“Load My Gun“) and features the entire LOX gang alongside SP and East. While the whole album is a worth your time, “We Got Everything” is another track that stuck out to me.
East, in my opinion, is gonna take off over the next few years because he has old-school talent and is respected by all the vets. Nas, it should be noted, gave East his first big break by signing him to Mass Appeal records. If Nas and the LOX sign off on you then that’s really saying something. With the direction the genre has gone recently, Dave East is a breath of fresh air and bound for great things.

Side note: Dave East (real name David Brewster) played three seasons of Division-1 college basketball from 2006 to 2010. In 45 career games with Richmond (06-07) and Towson (08-10), the 6-foot-6 rapper made 14 starts.
