Bryce Harper is Officially on Another MLB Team
Today, former Washington Nationals slugger Bryce Harper signed with the rival Philadelphia Phillies.
With Carson Wentz, Andrew McCutchen, Joel Embiid, Jimmy Butler and Ben Simmons, Philadelphia has plenty of star power on their professional sports teams. Now, thanks to a record-breaking contract handed out by the Philadelphia Phillies, you can add Bryce Harper to that impressive list.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, Harper signed a 13-year deal worth $330 million with the Phillies, though there isn’t an opt-out option. Harper did get a no-trade clause in the deal, per ESPN’s report.
Harper, who played locally for the Nationals for seven seasons before today, is the second MLB superstar with local ties to sign a monster deal in recent weeks. Former Baltimore Orioles infielder Manny Machado signed a 10-year, $300 million deal with San Diego last week.
Last season with Washington, Harper homered 34 times and drove in 100 runs. With that said, his WAR (1.3) was his lowest since 2014.
