Bryce Harper Started a Craze with His Phillie Phanatic Headband
At my first Phillies game, I was surprised to find a new stadium tradition, wearing the same Phillie Phanatic headband that Bryce Harper does.
Last night, I went to my first game at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. The home team got whooped 9-2 by Atlanta, but the stadium and its surrounding areas were awesome and welcoming.
Prior to the game, we were briefed by our Uber driver to make sure we got Crab Fries from Chickie and Pete’s; it’s a staple in Philly, per Ian the Uber driver, so we waited out the gigantic line for the fry-cheese combo. Not long after being at the ballpark, I noticed another Citizens Bank Park staple, one that no one had mentioned: Phillie Phanatic headbands.
Hundreds of fans were wearing these babies, and it didn’t take long to understand why. Sitting in the right-field stands, the very same handband all the fans were wearing was revealed on Bryce Harper’s head every time he took his hat off. Fans, obviously, have followed Harper’s lead to create the newest fashion craze for Philly sports fans.

Harper started wearing the headband in mid-July, even posting a picture of himself with it wrapped around his hair for his Instagram followers.

Like smart business people, the Phillies are selling these babies in every team store big and small around the park. When I was buying mine, the clerk checking me out confirmed that they’re flying off the racks.
