Chance Sisco, Orioles Offense on a Tear in Spring Training

The Baltimore Orioles offense has performed well so far in spring training.

It’s no secret that the Baltimore Orioles are in a rebuild, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get excited when they play well, right? Through five spring training games, they’re doing just that; well, the Orioles offense is at least.

While it’s very early still, Baltimore has put up 29 runs in five games (5.8 per game), going 3-2 in the process. Of all 30 MLB teams, they have the fourth-highest team batting average (.294), and of the 28 teams who have played at least five games, only three have struck out less. Last year, Baltimore averaged 3.9 runs per game.

Chance Sisco, the Orioles’ second-round pick in the 2013 MLB Draft, is leading the onslaught thus far. He’s blasted three home runs in seven trips to the plate and currently holds a .667 batting average (4-for-6).

Other players who have stuck out so far include Jack Reinheimer (.571 BA, 4-for-7) and Yusniel Diaz (.400 BA, 4-for-10). Diaz was the centerpiece of the load Baltimore received for Manny Machado last season and looks to be a huge part of their future. Reinheimer, a third-round pick in the 2013 MLB Draft, has MLB experience, playing 30 games for the Mets last season, and will likely be on Baltimore’s Opening Day roster.

It should be noted that although they’re crushing the ball from the batter’s box, the O’s are having a difficult time fielding it. Through five games, they’re tied for the fourth-most errors in the league (7).

Baltimore plays Philadelphia today at 1:05 P.M ET.
