Cowboys Tavon Austin Has Most Targets, Catches Since ’16 in Week 6 Loss
Things haven’t gone well for the Dallas Cowboys recently and Sunday was certainly their lowest point of the season. Dallas lost 24-22 to the previously winless New York Jets, bringing their losing streak to three games and their overall record to 3-3. On top of that, Amari Cooper, who was questionable all week before the game, left and didn’t return after catching one pass for three yards.
With Cooper out, Tavon Austin saw a lot more work than he’s used to, finishing with six targets, five catches, and a team-high 64 receiving yards. Coming into the game, the former No. 8 overall pick had just three catches for 26 yards and he wasn’t even active for Week 2 or Week 3.
The performance by Austin was by far his best as a Cowboy and a deeper dive reveals that it was his most productive performance since 2016 when he was still with the Rams.
You have to go all the way back to December 24th, 2016 to find a game where he had six or more targets (seven targets) and December 11th, 2016 to find a game where he had five or more receptions (seven receptions).
For his career, the former West Virginia star has 210 receptions on 350 targets.
