Crock Pot Defends Themselves After ‘This Is Us’ Fire
Last night’s This Is Us episode was one for the ages. Viewers finally learned how Jack Pearson passes away — a mystery that’s been in the air since Season 1 — and now, the cause has fans in a frenzy.
The Pearson family’s Crock Pot, which was nearly 20 years old and had a faulty switch, started a fire while the family slept upstairs. Credits rolled after the fire started, followed by an announcement that we’ll see how everything plays out immediately after the Super Bowl on February 4th, 2018.
This is the episode.
Tune in Sunday, February 4 after the Super Bowl and set your DVR with extra time so you don't miss a single minute. #ThisIsUs https://t.co/yBpnIlqLrC

Of course, this event didn’t merely pass without some blow-back on social media.
Good luck to all the PR people working in the crockpot industry as they walk into the office tomorrow morning. #ThisIsUs

Fans of the show immediately began freaking out over their own slow-cooking device, eventually forcing the hand of Crock Pot themselves.
On Facebook, the Crock-Pot Slow Cooker page began answering folks’ concerns, saying they’re “innocent until proven guilty” and saying their products are “generationally tested”.
All in all, they’re totally right. Your Crock Pot is fine and won’t start a fire in your house. But maybe, just maybe, if your on/off switch is faulty, it might be time to buy a new one.
It should be noted here that Dan Fogelman, creator of This Is Us, came to Crock Pot’s aid after the show aired.
Taking a moment to remind everyone that it was a 20 year old fictional crockpot with an already funky switch? Let's not just lump all those lovely hardworking crockpots together. #ThisIsUs
