Dax Shephard Makes Pete Carroll His First Sports Guest on Armchair Expert
Outside of his career in show business, Dax Shepard enjoys riding motorcycles and dune buggies. On his podcast, Armchair Expert, he refers to himself as a gearhead constantly and after listening to almost every episode, I can tell you he’s not much of a sports fan.
So when the new episode of Armchair Expert came out on Thursday, it was shocking to see Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll as the guest. Carroll broke the trend of non-sports guests with the appearance, becoming the first sports figure to sit down and chat with Dax (and co-host Monica Padman).
Per the episode, Carroll was referred to Dax by Michael Gervais, the subject of episode No. 97. Gervais, a licensed psychologist, is the co-founder of Compete to Create with Carroll, a “company with the mission of helping people find their best,” per Gervais’ LinkedIn page.
Carroll and Dax go down the rabbit hole on several topics but the most enjoyable part was Carroll talking about all his coaching stops. He revealed that his college coaches knew he was a coach before he did and that his college football career was mostly due to a stroke of good luck.
Pete Carroll is an American football coach who is the head coach and executive vice president of the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League. He is a former head coach of the New York Jets, New England Patriots, and the USC Trojans of the University of Southern California. Pete joins the Armchair Expert to discuss overcoming his stature as a kid, the importance of being present and his three basic rules. Pete talks about learning from failure and Dax is enamored by Pete’s skin. The two discuss the value of being a salesman, learning how to be competitive and the power of self-actualization.
