Delonte West Pops Up At George Mason Basketball Game

Delonte West was in attendance at the George Mason basketball team’s loss to Vermont.

FAIRFAX, Va — When I sat down in my seat on press row at the Vermont-George Mason basketball game, the last person I expected to chat with was Delonte West. Midway through the game, however, West walked in front of me to change seats and it nearly blew my mind. We spoke for a while and despite his reputation, the guy was as cool as can be. As it turns out, he was there on a scouting mission, with “Boston Celtics” scrawled on the bottom of his press pass.

As for the game, George Mason fell to Vermont 72-67 in a game that saw Justin Kier go off for 32 points. Kier shot 12-for-15 from the floor, including two three-balls but it wasn’t enough to propel them to a win. A large part of the loss was Vermont’s focus on shutting down newly-minted Atlantic-10 Player of the Week Otis Livingston II. My seat was right behind Vermont’s bench and their coach, John Becker, strategized on how to stop Livingston every chance he got. Unfortunately, the fundamentally sound Catamounts succeeded in their plight, holding Otis to just six points on 1-of-7 shooting.

Becker, it should be noted, spent time as a student at neighboring George Washington University and coached down the road at Gallaudet University for two seasons.

Mason, now 4-6 on the year, will now host James Madison on December 7th at Eagle Bank Arena in Fairfax, VA.
