Epic Chris Davis Slump Ends in Boston
The Baltimore Orioles have been getting a lot of press lately, which, given the fact they’re projected as one of the MLB’s worst teams, is not exactly normal. Said headlines, however, weren’t the good kind. Instead, they were for first baseman Chris Davis and his enormous 0-for-54 slump.
Today, the headlines were there again, only this time, they were to celebrate Davis breaking out of his epic slump.
In a 9-5 win over Boston, Davis carried the O’s with three hits and four runs batted in. Two of his hits were doubles, and Davis even opened the scoring for Baltimore with a two-run single in the top of the first inning. Now, Davis has an actual batting average, raising his mark from .000 to .079 on the season.
Speaking with reporters after the game, the former All-Star was obviously relieved and said he was happy to “get a few hits” and “feel like I really contributed to the win.”
Starter Andrew Cashner picked up his third win of the season, while four other Orioles’ hitter had multiple hits — Jonathan Villar, Trey Mancini, Renato Nunez, and Rio Ruiz, who all had two hits.
Davis’ three-hit performance was the most by any player in the game, Boston included.
Baltimore continues its wraparound series with Boston on Sunday and Monday. They’re now 6-9 on the season and sit in third place among AL East teams.
