Former MLB, Orioles Player Eric Byrnes is Swimming, Biking, and Running Across America
You may know Eric Byrnes as the guy who crashed into walls, bowled over catchers, and dove for balls in the MLB. Or you may know him from his current job at MLB Network. Maybe you even read his book, The F*IT List, over the last year. Now, however, you need to know him as an endurance athlete — and not just because it’s a healthy habit. No, Byrnes has taken his newest passion and turned it into a way to promote his charity, the Let Them Play Foundation.
Just a few days ago, Byrnes set out on a triathlon ACROSS AMERICA, not just a regular triathlon. He already swam seven miles (which, fittingly, started at McCovey Cove in San Francisco) and has began the next leg of his trip: 2344 miles on bike to Chicago. From there, he’ll run the final 846 miles and finish at Yankee Stadium.
Along the way, Bynes is stopping at several baseball parks and such to promote physical education programs in school — which is the whole idea behind his foundation.
He is an inspiration to all. For starters, he’s making endurance athletics cool. Then, he manages to do it with a smile and an upbeat attitude. You can follow his Instagram accounts for updates on his trip. Maybe, if you get the chance, seek him out on his trip.
