At 53, Mike Tyson’s Style is Still Impetuous
Mike Tyson is still a star in his post-boxing career. He hosts a popular YouTube series, makes cameos left and right and has over 16 million followers between his Twitter and Instagram accounts. Even with all that success, he’s getting the itch again.
He hinted at a return to the ring a few weeks ago, but the video he posted to his IG has the rest of the world believing in him.
“I’m back,” he says at the end of the video, moments after violently hitting the gloves and bouncing side to side like he’s 33. Dude still has it, no question, and I’d pay for a comeback fight.
“Mike look like he can win another title,” 50 Cent said in the comment section of the video. Others who dropped a line in the comments were The Undertaker, Steve Harvey, Busta Rhymes, Wiz Khalifa, and several other high-profile figures.
In 2006, a year after his last official fight, Tyson went on a short exhibition tour. He wasn’t in the good graces of the public like he is now, however, and his opponent during the tour wore headgear. It wasn’t the draw a comeback these days would be.
Tyson won his first 37 professional fights, losing first to Buster Douglas in one of the biggest upsets in sports history. He followed the Douglas fight with eight straight wins before losing to Evander Holyfield twice in a row — the second being the infamous biting incident. Altogether, he went 5-5 with two no-contests in his last 12 fights, finishing his career with a 50-6-2 record.
