Field of Dreams Game Moved to 2021; White Sox Confirmed as Participant
Even if the planned 2020 Field of Dreams game was between two healthy teams, there’s a good chance the MLB would have pulled the plug. Since it was supposed to include the Cardinals, the second ballclub going through a major COVID-19 outbreak, there was no chance the league was going through with the special event.
The league confirmed the cancellation of the 2020 Field of Dreams game between the White Sox and Cardinals on Monday, according to reports, and announced the game will now be part of the 2021 season. Workers have been working towards getting the stadium (right across from the actual field from Field of Dreams) ready for the last year.
“We are postponing because of the pandemic,” the league told KCCI Des Moines.
The White Sox were originally supposed to play the Yankees in the Field of Dreams game but because of the COVID-induced scheduling changes, they had to switch the Yankees with a team on Chicago’s schedule. That’s how the Cardinals got involved.
The game was supposed to be played on August 13th in Dyersville, Iowa, the home of the Field of Dreams site.
According to ESPN, the White Sox will be part of the 2021 game but the other team hasn’t been set in stone.
