Former Baylor Basketball Star Rico Gathers Snags First NFL Catch
Former Baylor basketball star Rico Gathers, now with the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys, snagged his first NFL reception on Sunday Night Football against Houston.
Just like Tony Gonzalez and Antonio Gates did in the past, current Dallas Cowboys tight end Rico Gathers has made the jump from the basketball court to the football field. And on Sunday, the 6-foot-6 athletic freak made his first NFL catch off a pass from Dak Prescott for 32 yards.

Off his back foot, Prescott made a beautiful throw to Gathers on a first-and-10 and he went up and snagged it.

The Cowboys have been trying to get Rico involved now for the last few weeks and finally, while up 3-0, they made it happen. Gathers’ first reception set up another field goal for Dallas, making it 6-0, but the Texans responded quickly with a touchdown. At this point, that’s where we currently stand.
Gathers was drafted in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft but this is the first year where he actually made the roster.
While at Baylor, Gathers played four years with the basketball team. As a junior and senior he was a big part of their team, starting 59 of 66 games while averaging 11.4 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. In total, Gathers played 141 games for the Bears, racking up over 1,200 points and 1,100 rebounds.
