Former Northern Iowa Star Ali Farokhmanesh Still Getting Fan Mail After Miracle Shot
Remember that guy from that school who hit that big shot back in the day? The one who ended up on the cover of Sports Illustrated? That would be Ali Farokhmanesh. The year was 2010 and the school was Northern Iowa. The cover? That came on March 29th, 2019. You can still buy it.
These days, Farokhmanesh — who played at two junior colleges before catching on with UNI — can be found on the sidelines during college basketball games. He’s an assistant coach for Colorado State, this coming after he followed head coach Niko Medved there from Drake’s basketball program. His first job in college hoops came as a graduate assistant with Nebraska after spending several years playing professionally overseas.
And while he’s not a household name or anything, people still remember his heroics back in 2010. Some of them even remember him by name. And a select few still mail him letters and ask for autographs. How do I know this? Well, his wife told me. Not really. She tweeted it out.
I wish I was cool and people wanted my autograph 😒 pic.twitter.com/MdkFCWjBER
