Three Emergency Fantasy Football Tight Ends to Replace George Kittle
READ: Four Emergency Fantasy Football Tight Ends To Replace George Kittle
The San Francisco 49ers just announced tight end George Kittle is doubtful for Monday night’s game against Seattle.
The tight end position, for fantasy purposes, is already scarce. Austin Hooper, the TE1 in PPR leagues, has 144 points. The TE10 is Jason Witten, he has barely half of Hooper’s points (76.6).
Week 10 is a different beast. Three of the top six tight ends are not playing due to injury or bye (Kittle, Evan Engram, Zach Ertz). Boom-or-bust TE9 Darren Fells and Noah Fant, who just spiked his fantasy stock with a 75-yard grown man touchdown, are on byes.
While I can’t promise top-ten performances, I can promise these three tight ends … should … perform better than simply leaving your TE spot vacant.
Josh Hill, New Orleans Saints
Hill is owned in 2.7% of ESPN leagues. Yes, Jared Cook is returning from injury, but Hill actually out-snapped Cook in the last three games Cook played. The Atlanta Falcons defense is generously putting on a season-long clinic on how not to, well, play defense, and with a 51-point over/under there should be plenty of savory targets to go around.
Mike Gesicki, Miami Dolphins
The second-year tight end is owned in 8.8 percent of ESPN leagues. Last week, he caught each of his six targets for 95 yards. He’s also almost exclusively a pass-catching tight end, playing only 50 run snaps this season. That stat alone should get you about as excited as one could get resorting to starting a Miami Dolphin because, well, when teams are losing big they tend to pass more.

Maxx Williams, Arizona Cardinals
Williams has seen more than one target in just two games this season. That’s not great. But last week, Williams out-snapped veteran Charles Clay 42 to 24. Despite Williams’ mainly being used as a blocking tight end, he actually has a higher PFF receiving grade than Clay this year. In week six, Williams cut through the Falcons defense for a 20-yard score. While that feat has proven to be easier than cutting a warm knife through butter (I’m a Falcons fan how do you think I feel?) this week’s matchup against the Bucs has the highest over/under (52) of the week so if you’re reeling in a deep league, you could have a start a worse last resort. Williams is owned in zero percent of ESPN leagues.
