George Mason: Late Run, Efficient Shooting Drop Morgan State

George Mason had one of their best shooting nights of the year in their 82-75 win over Morgan State in Fairfax, Va.

Coming into the game as 13.5-point favorites, the George Mason basketball team barely slipped by fellow DMV program Morgan State. The Patriots and Bears were tied 71-71 with two minutes to play but an A.J. Wilson bucket put them ahead and they never looked back. Otis Livingston II, George Mason’s leading scorer, took control after the Wilson bucket with five of his game-high 22 points in the final two minutes.

Outside of their offensive explosion against Georgia Southern a few weeks ago, the win over Morgan State saw GMU shoot better than they have all season. They shot 49.1 percent from the field and 42.1 percent from deep, both season-highs if you take out the Georgia Southern game.

Besides the 22 points from Livingston, two other Patriots scored in double figures — Javon Greene (17 points) and Justin Kier (14 points). All three hit multiple three-pointers while Wilson chipped in five blocked shots.

Livingston, who also dropped seven of Mason’s 14 dimes, became one of four players in GMU history to dish out 400-plus assists in their respective careers.

George Mason moved to 3-5 on the year and will now play four very beatable teams before a trip to Kansas State on December 29th. First, they’ll travel downstate to William & Mary before hosting Vermont, James Madison, and Navy. After the Kansas State game, they’ll start their Atlantic-10 schedule.
