George Mason Picks Up Biggest Win of the Season
This past weekend, the George Mason basketball team picked up their biggest win of the season when they went on the road and upset No. 123 Rhode Island. The Rams were the highest ranked team (via KenPom) that Mason beat this year and now, they’re 3-1 in Atlantic-10 play.
Beating Rhode Island was awesome but the fact that they blew them out by 17 points (84-67) was even better. It’s like they were punishing URI because of how crummy they played against Davidson last week. With the win, Mason moved to No. 120 in the KenPom rankings, the highest they’ve been since the season started.
Mason was ranked No. 116 in the preseason.
Prior to the URI game, it was announced that Goanar Mar would be going under the knife, essentially ending his season. Mar is a huge part of what they do, yet against the Rams, their next-man-up mentality was on full display. Jordan Miller, a local star from nearby Loudoun County, came off the bench in his debut and LIT IT UP. In 23 minutes, Miller scored 14 points on 6-8 shooting.

Moving forward, Mason will play at UMass (1/16) and at home against Fordham (1/19). With Miller looking like a real asset and the team rallying around Mar’s injury, the Patriots could easily win their next two before their upcoming showdown against No. 71 Dayton on January 23rd.
