Georgetown Basketball Season Over After Home NIT Loss
Even though Georgetown had half as many turnovers as Harvard, and attempted nine more field goals, the Hoyas season ended on Wednesday thanks to a 71-68 defeat at the hands of the Crimson. The Hoyas led by one at halftime but were outdone in the second half en route to their first loss in the NIT First Round since the 2008-09 season.

Georgetown struggled all night from beyond the arc, shooting just 23.8 percent (5-for-21). Had Jessie Govan not gone 4-for-9, the team would have been an abysmal 1-for-12. The only other Hoya to make a three-point field goal was James Akinjo, who finished 1-for-2.
Overall, Govan led the way with 25 points. Akinjo and Mac McClung were the only other Hoyas in double figures, adding 15 and 10, respectively.
The Hoyas’ bench was also suspect against Harvard, making only four field goals on 17 attempts.
With the loss, the Hoyas finish their 2018-19 campaign with a final win-loss record of 19-14. While their first-round exit was disappointing, the season was a success compared to their 15-15 record from a year ago.
Moving forward, things are looking up. Both McClung and Akinjo are freshmen who excelled all season and play hard consistently. As they grow, and some pieces fall into place around them, an NCAA Tournament bid is likely in their future.
