Georgetown Controls Big East Tournament Destiny
Although they were steamrolled on Wednesday evening by DePaul and currently sit in the No. 7 seed, the Georgetown Hoyas can easily secure one of the first-round byes given to the top six seeds.
Georgetown, one of five Big East teams with an 8-9 conference record, controls their own destiny going forward. All they need to do is win their final Big East game. That said, a win won’t be easy as they travel to No. 2-seeded Marquette to wrap their season up. And, it should be noted, the Hoyas can still earn a first-round bye in the conference tournament if they lose to Marquette, it’s just a sure thing if they do win, according to Big East Coast Bias.
As it stands right now, Georgetown can finish in a number of different spots, as high as No. 3 and as low as No. 9. The most likely landing spot, however, is the No. 6 seed which, of course, gives them the coveted first-round bye.

In terms of the NCAA Tournament, the Hoyas have a slim chance of making an appearance. Team Rankings currently gives them a 3-percent chance for an auto-bid (winning the Big East Tournament) and a one-percent chance of an at-large bid.
Georgetown will travel to Marquette on Saturday, March 9th for a 2:30 P.M ET game on FOX. Earlier this season, the two played a tight game in Washington, D.C. that Marquette eventually won 74-71.
After losing to DePaul, the Hoyas fell 14 spots in KenPom’s rankings from No. 79 to No. 93.
