Gilbert Arenas Joining BIG3 Season Three
From 2003 to 2011, Gilbert Arenas specialized in lighting up scoreboards as the face of the Washington Wizards. And like his successor, John Wall, the results never came but it was fun while it lasted. His NBA career petered out in 2012 on the Memphis Grizzlies bench, though he did play in China for a year after that, and now he’s a 2019 cliche: former megastar with a podcast.
On that podcast, No Chill, Arenes recently announced some major news that will put him back out into the world. This summer, “Agent Zero” will be bringing his talents back to the basketball court as a member of Ice Cube’s BIG3 basketball league.
Per a tweet by Ice Cube, the decision was influenced by something Michael Jordan said to him.
Arenas joined former Maryland star Steve Blake and Lamar Odom as players who have added their talents to the 3-on-3 league in recent weeks. Arenas, however, will likely be assigned as a captain, guaranteeing himself a spot, while Blake and Odom will be entering the BIG3 draft pool.
During his NBA career, Arenas made three NBA All-Star appearances and All-NBA teams. His best year came in 2005-06 when he averaged 29.3 points per game in the regular season and 34 points per game in the playoffs. The following year, “Agent Zero” scored 60 points in a single game.
Looking ahead, Arenas’ style fits the BIG3 well. If he gets in proper shape, he could be one of the best players in the league.
