GMU’s Justin Kier Currently on A-10 All-KenPom Team
After starting the season 2-5, George Mason has gone on a tear to improve their record to 11-8 (and 5-1 in A-10 play). Numerous things have factored into their turnaround but one — the emergence of junior Justin Kier — really stands out above everything else.
During their 2-5 stretch, Kier averaged just a shade over 10 points and three rebounds per game. Since then, however, he’s taken it upon himself to be more aggressive on both ends, raising his production to 18.5 points and 8.8 rebounds per game in Mason’s last 11 games (8-3 record).
People are starting to take notice, too; Kier was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week to start 2019 and now, he’s jumped into the conference’s All-KenPom.com team.
Atlantic 10 All-KenPom.com Team (1/20)
- Jon Axel Gudmundsson, Davidson
- Marcus Evans, VCU
- Luwane Pipkins, Massachusetts
- Justin Kier, George Mason
- Cyril Langevine, Rhode Island
The All-KenPom.com team isn’t permanent but with the way he’s playing, Kier should have no issue keeping his name among the Top 5. That said, he’s going to be considered for A-10 Player of the Year if the team continues surging and he keeps putting up numbers.
By comparison, the only other major DMV college hoops program with a player on their conference’s All-KenPom.com Team is Virginia, who has two players on the ACC All-KenPom squad.
