Goanar Mar Reportedly Transferring From George Mason
While Ian Boyd will be back in the saddle for George Mason in 2020-21, news broke that Goanar Mar will be on his way out. According to Washington Post reporter Steven Goff, Mar is transferring away from Mason after three seasons in Fairfax.
George Mason U🏀news: Ian Boyd returning for 5th season after missing 2019-20 with injury; Justin Kier awaiting decision on long-shot bid for 5th season (at GMU or elsewhere); junior F Goanar Mar transferring (mins and pts steadily declined after promising debut year) #masonmbb

Mar had a great freshman season after arriving in town as Minnesota’s sixth-best prospect in the Class of 2017 and the winner of multiple state titles. He started all 33 games for GMU during the 2017-18 season, finishing with 10.9 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. Unfortunately, as a sophomore, an injury derailed his career. His shot never quite returned to where it was as a freshman and his minutes declined heavily, As a sophomore and junior, Mar averaged just 2.7 points in 17.7 minutes per game while shooting an abysmal 30.4 percent from the floor and 17.8 percent from beyond the arc. In his junior season alone, Mar went just 2-for-27 from deep.

Goanar Mar was one of the humblest and hardest-working players in recent memory at Mason. It's rare that a transfer makes me genuinely sad, but this one does.

Prior to the Mar news, Jason Douglas-Stanley announced he’d be transferring from George Mason to Manhattan.
