Grizzlies: MarShon Brooks Shines After 1,442 Days Away From NBA (w/Highlights)
Before Wednesday night, the last time MarShon Brooks appeared in an NBA game was 1,442 days ago. It was April 16th, 2014…and on that day, Ray Allen was still playing for the Miami Heat, Lonzo Ball was in 10th grade, and Michael Carter-Williams was still considered a good NBA point guard.
A lot has changed since then, but one thing has not: MarShon Brooks can still get buckets.
In Brooks’ not-so-triumphant return to the court, he dropped 21 points in the Grizzlies’ surprise upset of the Portland Trail Blazers. Brooks played only 21 minutes but made the most of them. Wearing No. 8 for Memphis, be splashed all five of his three-point attempts, both of his free-throws, and finished 7-12 from the field. Of all Grizzlies’ players, the former Providence standout was the leading scorer.

Brooks did a lot of his damage during crunch-time, too. He played with tons of confidence and went toe-to-toe with Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum on several occasions. After the game, Brooks called his shocking performance a “testament to hard work”.
“It’s kind of a relief because not playing for four years, you can be the most confident guy in the world, & then not playing for four years makes you wonder. It’s a testament to hard work.” – @Marshon2 https://t.co/qQbGJ0vpUG

Brooks, a first-round pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, signed a 10-day contract on March 27th with the Grizzlies. He had been playing with Jiangsu Dragons (of the Chinese Basketball Association) since 2015. However, he’s probably most known for his 52-point outburst as a member of the Providence Friars (vs. Notre Dame) back in 2011.
The last time he scored 20-plus points in an NBA game was on February 28th of 2014 as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers.
