HBO’s Craig Carton Documentary Set to Air on October 7th
We’re now two days out from HBO’s documentary on Craig Carton’s freefall from WFAN to a jail cell. The doc, titled Wild Card: The Downfall of a Radio Loudmouth, tells the story of how Carton fell deep into gambling addiction and eventually federal fraud charges.
The doc is set to air on Wednesday, October 7th with Carton presumably narrating most of the story. His co-host on Boomer & Carton, former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason, also appears, saying Carton “ruined what we all had.”
But as the premiere approaches, it’s been reported that Carton is nearing a comeback to the place that made him famous — sports talk radio. According to NJ.com, it’s hinted at in the doc.
The documentary offers no specifics, and the fact it closes on a text screen suggests more information could come by the time the documentary debuts on Oct. 7. But the limited reveal indicates Carton’s return to WFAN, presumably to save its flagging afternoon drive program, could be right around the corner.
As far as his return to WFAN is concerned, nothing is set in stone. In fact, it’s possible his return to radio happens at a different station in another city! Per the New York Post, “Carton already has a firm offer to work mornings at Philadelphia’s 97.5 The Fanatic.”
NJ.com’s James Kratch, who has already seen the film, said the 76-minute doc is “extremely raw and powerful.”
