Hokies, Wahoos & VCU Included in Latest FOX College Hoops Bracketology

The latest bracketology from FOX College Hoops includes multiple teams from Virginia — three to be exact. In actuality, I think the number will be more like four or five when the dust settles but we’ll get to that later. Here’s who made the cut this time around…

Virginia (#7 Midwest Region)

Virginia Tech (#7 East Region)

VCU (#11 Midwest Region)

Noticeably absent are Richmond, currently ranked #52 by KenPom, and Liberty, the best team (by far) in the A-SUN Conference. Richmond is a better team than VCU, and after this came out the Rams were trounced by Rhode Island so they could be swapped in the next release. Liberty plays in the A-SUN, a one-bid league; FOX just plugged in the A-SUN team with the best conference record, not necessarily the best team overall. That said, Liberty is now tied for the best conference record and the only team ranked in KenPom’s Top 100 (#97). The next A-SUN team after Liberty is Lipscomb and they’re way back at #206. Simply put, this is Liberty’s bid to lose.

Old Dominion (#136 KP) is another team to watch. They’re playing well right now but find themselves in a much-improved Conference USA; six C-USA teams are in the KenPom Top 150 as of Sunday (Jan. 10). ODU, it should be noted, received the most recent C-USA auto-bid (2019 NCAA Tournament).
