Hoos Win Despite Poor Shooting From Kyle Guy, Ty Jerome

Playing at Louisville, the Virginia Cavaliers were able to overcome a 10-point halftime deficit and poor performances from some of their best scorers to secure a 64–52 win.

Future NBA Draft pick De’Andre Hunter scored a career-high 26 points for the Hoos, picking up the slack Kyle Guy, Ty Jerome, and everyone else who attempted a three-point shot. Hunter made the only two three-balls for Virginia, as the rest of the squad was 0-for-15.

Guy and Jerome, specifically, went 0–for-11 from deep, combining for just 12 points on 25-percent shooting (4-for-20). Although they didn’t shoot the ball well, Jerome led the team in assists (5) and Guy led the team in rebounds (8).

Only two other players besides Hunter scored in double-figures for the Hoos: Mamadi Diakite (14 points) and Jay Huff (12 points).

With the victory over Louisville, Virginia remains the №1-ranked team via KenPom and the first ACC team to ever win five road games against ranked teams. Louisville was ranked №18 nationally going into the game and №19 via KenPom.

Virginia, now 24–2 overall and 12–2 in ACC play, will host two home games this coming week against a few of the ACC’s weaker teams: Georgia Tech (Wed, Feb. 27) and Pittsburgh (Sat, Mar. 2). Per KenPom, they’re projected to win by 20-plus in both games.
