Ian Boyd Returning to George Mason For Fifth Year
On March 4th, the George Mason basketball team hosted Saint Louis in their final home game of the season. The Patriots wound up losing but it was an opportunity to honor their exiting seniors, Justin Kier and Ian Boyd.
Fast-forward one month and it appears Boyd won’t be going anywhere after all. Boyd was granted an extra year of eligibility after missing the entire 2019-20 season with an injury. For the upcoming year, Boyd will join the entire starting five from 2019-20, big man Josh Oduro, and some talented incoming freshman.
A proven leader, Boyd rose to fame during the 2017-18 season with three consecutive game-winning shots. He earned the nickname “Mr. Sportscenter” after getting featured by ESPN following the third of his three consecutive buzzer-beaters.

“I love being a part of this program and it means a lot to be able to play another season in a Mason uniform. I can’t wait to get back on the court,” Boyd told GoMason.com. “My teammates, coaches and our supporters at Mason have become my second family.”
In three seasons, the North Carolina native has appeared in 95 games, averaging 5.2 points on 44.5 percent shooting.
“I’ve never had a player who loves to play the game of basketball as much as Ian,” head coach Dave Paulsen told GoMason.com.
