Jamal Crawford & Michael Beasley Sign With Nets For Season Reboot
Several Nets players are unavailable for the reboot in Orlando so they turned to a couple of proven veterans to fill their roster. Jamal Crawford and Michael Beasley have signed on, bringing over 25,000 combined points to the table.
Neither player was with a team prior to the reboot, though both played in the league last year — Beasley with the Lakers (26 games); Crawford with Phoenix (64 games). Beasley averaged seven points per game in his most recent NBA stint while Crawford posted a slightly better mark (7.9 ppg).
The Nets still have two open spots to fill.
Beasley grew up in Prince George’s County (Md.) and played AAU ball alongside Nets superstar Kevin Durant. This may have played a role in Brooklyn seeking out the veteran swingman.
Crawford reached agreement with the Nets, and Beasley is progressing toward a contract to provide Brooklyn with two accomplished veterans in NBA restart. Beasley also has a strong relationship with Kevin Durant. https://t.co/Dau3PVhSJw

“He can play multiple positions for us,” Brooklyn Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn said in reference to Michael Beasley. “Organizationally we will look at the best talent out there and he presented himself and we’ll definitely take advantage of his talents.”
“What Jamal brings to this team is the ability to make shots,” he added. “You also get veteran leadership.”
Both guys are legitimate bucket-getters; during the 2017-18 season, they both averaged in double figures — Beasley put up 13.2 ppg with New York; Crawford averaged 10.3 ppg with Minnesota — and have the ability to heat up quickly. Beasley has been known as “Melo from the left side” and Crawford dropped 51 points in the last NBA game he played in.
For his career, Beasley has averaged 12.4 ppg in 609 games. Crawford put up 14.6 ppg in 1,326 games.
Brooklyn restarts its season on July 31st against Orlando. The team will be without Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, Spencer Dinwiddie, DeAndre Jordan, Taurean Prince, Nicolas Claxton, and Wilson Chandler. Players arriving separately from the team will quarantine for six days, according to the Nets official website.
