Javon Greene Joins George Mason Basketball’s 1000 Point Club

Javon Greene has been one of the true mainstays in Dave Paulsen’s lineup over the last four years at George Mason. As player after player decided to transfer out — from Jaire Grayer (to TCU) to Justin Kier (to Georgia) and beyond — Greene stood pat, and now he’s the 39th player in school history to score 1,000 career points.

Greene scored a game-high 18 points on Wednesday in Mason’s 75-42 blowout win over La Salle, putting him at exactly 1,000 points for his career. The magic number came via two free throws at the 6:18 mark in the second half.

Josh Oduro (17), A.J. Wilson (15) and Jordan Miller (10) also scored in double-figures for Mason, now 6-5 overall and 2-3 in A-10 play.

Greene is coming off a season where he averaged a career-best 13.8 points per game. Included in last year’s campaign was a career-best 39-point performance, as well as a 32-point night. He’ll likely finish in the same range this season; he’s currently at 10.5 points per game but his numbers are pulled down by a zero-point night where he only played five minutes after being benched by Paulsen.

Miller is likely going to be the next Mason player to hit the 1,000-point mark. Just a junior, Miller already has 713 career points and he’s arguably the team’s best offensive player. A.J. Wilson (716) is currently a few points ahead of Miller but only has the rest of the season to reach the milestone.

Mason’s next game will be this Saturday on the road against Rhode Island at 2:00 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast nationally on NBC Sports Network.
