Jeff Pearlman Shares Awesome Behind-The-Scenes Look at NBA Writers on Deadline
Jeff Pearlman is one of the best follows on Twitter, hands down. Besides having an awesome podcast about “writing in all its forms”, he’s extremely active on his account (especially about social issues) and often opens himself up to aspiring writers who want insight on the profession. It’s something he doesn’t have to do but does anyway because he generally cares about, well, writing.
On Sunday night, he really pulled back the curtain on the journalism world, sharing a video of the press room moments after the NBA All-Star Game had ended.

It shows numerous writers frantically blasting away on their MacBooks, churning out stories with notepads, recorders, and iPhones in tow. The whole scene is an interesting look at how important timing is with gamer-type articles. Everyone is rushing to turn their work in, hoping to get their story up before the next guy. After all, the later you make it to the party, the less relevant your story may be, especially these days. Brand loyalty is at an all-time low, so if your site doesn’t have X-story up, they’ll move onto someone that does.
Pearlman currently writes for The Athletic and hosts the Two Writers Slinging Yang podcast.
