Jerry Hairston Jr. Says Manny Machado Will Wear No. 8 on Dodgers Jersey

For the first 860 games of his MLB career, Manny Machado wore No. 13 on the back of his Orioles jersey. Now, he’s a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers and his jersey number, unfortunately, will have to change. Max Muncy, a guy who we just recently featured as one of the most surprising players from the first-half of the MLB season, currently wears No. 13 for the Dodgers.

Today, though, as the second-half of the 2018 MLB season gets ready to kick off, it’s been revealed what number his Dodgers jersey will feature: No. 8.

The news comes from current Dodgers broadcaster Jerry Hairston Jr.. Ironically, Hairston Jr. also began his career with the Baltimore Orioles before making his way out to the West Coast with the Dodgers.

While it’s not clear if Machado meant it as a tribute to Cal Ripken Jr., Hairston believes that’s the case.

Hairston and Ripken played four years together with the Orioles from 1998 to 2001.
