John Mayer May Have Created the Perfect Music Video with ‘New Light’
I’ve long assumed that I wasn’t a John Mayer fan, and now I think I have to be, right?
He flipped the script on the music video scene when he released the video to his new single “New Light” on Thursday.
Due to budgetary squabbles, John Mayer just said “fuck it” and went to a company that does music videos for kids’ birthday parties and bar mitzvahs and created this pure gem:
It’s gleeful, funny, innocent, and perfect in every way.
The song being a banger certainly doesn’t hurt, but the video actually enhances it in a way that shouldn’t be possible.
This should actually be concerning for traditional creators of music videos because John Mayer will be taking over social media with a video that may have cost like $100 to make.
Now, I admit that most people probably don’t have the kind of swagger needed to pull off a move like that.
But it does create a new avenue of creative thinking that will be far more cost-effective for artists trying desperately to steal headlines.
John Mayer, man.
I have to be a fan now.
This was an unexpected result for me.
