Jordan Peele Teases New Film “Us” on Twitter
Jordan Peele, the breakout star of 2017 with Get Out, which he wrote and directed, put out the first teaser poster for his new film Us on Tuesday.
There’s a lot to unpack here, even with what seems to be so little.
First off, that first line, a new nightmare, implies that we’re in for another film in the horror realm.
Jordan Peele made his bones in the comedy world, particularly with Key and Peele, but he evolved as an artist with horror.

We’re in the midst of a horror renaissance. Artsy directors are using the medium as a creative outlet, telling completely different types of stories with underlying meanings.
We’ve seen it with It Follows, The Babadook, The Witch, and tons of other A24 productions.
Jordan Peele, for instance, explored racism, as well as a plethora of other topics, with Get Out.
In that same vein, this seems to be another exploration into racial dynamics. The smokey figures (in the Rorschach test, which makes me believe it will be a psychological horror flick) look to be African-American people on a sheet of white.
The name sort of adds to that idea. Us. It’s plural, collective, and separated from them, a group versus a group.
Knowing some of the ideas that drive Jordan Peele, I could see it being another clash of races, using exploitation and mind games once again to dive into uncomfortable topics.
The final bit of information is the date: March.
We’ve come to find out that means March 15, specifically.
That means we have less than a year to waiter what promises to be something special.
In the hours after the poster was revealed, information began to trickle out.
Variety got the jump on it, announcing some of the stars in talks to be in the film:
…sources also tell Variety that Lupita Nyong’o is in talks to star, with Elisabeth Moss eyed as the top choice for another lead role. Winston Duke is also being eyed for another lead role in the movie.
Moss is one of the best working actresses in Hollywood today, while Nyong’o and Duke have a lot of buzz around them after the recent release of Black Panther.
With Jordan Peele heading back into the horror world with this quality of acting talent at his disposal and the faith of the producers, he may be in the Best Picture talks once again, sooner rather than later.
