Mac Miller Circles Tracklist, First Single, and Thoughts About Release
It’s certainly tough getting over the fact that Mac Miller isn’t out and about doing a press tour for his new album, Circles. He was always so good at that part of the job — you know, getting fans even more excited than they already were for one of his new projects. His Tiny Desk set on NPR Music is a perfect example, and it’s easily the saddest part about the new album; he’s not here to enjoy the process or get a true sense of what this specific set of songs means to his fans and the hip-hop world at large.
Unfortunately, this is reality. He’s not here, though it’s beyond amazing how well the Miller Family and Mac’s inner-circle have kept the spirit and music alive since his passing. The benefit concert was jaw-dropping, complete with a John Mayer version of “Small Worlds,” and his non-stop work ethic brought fans an incredible posthumous verse on an 88 Keys single, posthumous production on childhood friend Bill Waves For the Lost Children project, and now, an entire album, which was finished by Grammy-nominated composer Jon Brion.
Circles is a companion piece to Mac’s Grammy-nominated Swimming album, released one month before his tragic death. Brion also played a big role in the production of Swimming, and the upcoming release is a testament to how their relationship was growing. As noted in the family’s official announcement, “Jon dedicated himself to finishing Circles based on his time and conversations with Malcolm,” adding that they are “eternally grateful to Jon and to those who gave their best to the difficult and emotional task of putting out this body of work.”
