Mark Sanchez, Matt Moore Headline List of Potential Bills QB Replacements
With AJ McCarron going down in the Buffalo Bills second preseason game, the team needs to find a third quarterback. Of the guys available, the best options are Mark Sanchez, Matt Moore, T.J. Yates, and Derek Anderson.
Below, we’ll make a case for all four.
Definitely the biggest name of the four, Sanchez has a lot of experience at this point. Plus, having been the New York Jets No. 1 guy for four years, he has a lot of experience in the AFC East. Unfortunately, he will have to serve a four-game suspension when the season starts if signed.
Like Sanchez, Matt Moore has a lot of experience in the AFC East. Between 2011-2017, Moore started 17 games with the Miami Dolphins (8-9 WL). Most importantly, though, Moore has already played for Bills’ offensive coordinator Brian Daboll in 2011. For the record, his one year under Daboll was by far his most impressive stint as an NFL quarterback. It seems like Moore could be the odds-on favorite to get the contract.
While Moore and Sanchez have AFC East experience, Yates has Bills experience. In 2017, Yates spent time in Buffalo before getting hurt, reaching an injury settlement, and being released. From there, he went on to join the Texans for the second time, even starting three games last season. Yates, I’d say, isn’t as talented as Moore or Sanchez.
Remember him? The former Pro Bowl QB from the Cleveland Browns? Yeah, well Anderson has been Cam Newton‘s understudy for the last seven years. This year, however, Anderson is without a job. With that said, this guy is a pure rollercoaster. One game he looks brilliant, the next, he does this. I’d steer clear but the Bills may not. After all, general manager Brandon Beane and head coach Sean McDermott both have connections to Anderson from their days in Carolina.
Overall:Â I’d rank Moore as the favorite of the Bills QB search, followed by Yates, Anderson, and Sanchez.
