Marlins to Resume Play Tonight vs. Baltimore
If you head to the MLB league leaders, you’ll find Miguel Rojas at the top of the batting leaders for the entire league. Rojas is hitting .700 — it looks like an adult softball stat more than baseball — but that’s because Rojas is also a member of the Marlins, the only team in the bigs who has played less than a handful of games. Most MLB teams have played at least 10 games,
Miami, who had the first real coronavirus outbreak of the 2020 season, is supposed to get back to action tonight for their first game since Sunday, July 26th. They won their last game, beating Philadelphia 11-6, but you could argue they shouldn’t have played that one either because there were multiple positive tests before the game.
All infected staff/players — it reached almost 20 — are quarantining in Miami after bussing from Philadelphia last week. The uninfected have remained in Philadelphia to quarantine and it’s been a success. There haven’t been any positive tests for multiple days now, according to ESPN, and now they’re getting ready to return to action — at least that’s the plan.
Miami has a four-game set scheduled with Baltimore starting on August 4th. All games will be played in Baltimore, though Miami will be the home team for Game 3 & 4.
Baltimore, rather surprisingly, is 5-3 on the season. They were one of the teams affected by Miami’s outbreak; the series they’re getting ready to play was supposed to be their second series of the season (July 27-30) before getting postponed.
The two teams will then play a doubleheader on Wednesday. Miami has a whole gang of new players (16 to be exact) joining the team for the games.
