Terps End Purdue’s Month-Long Big 10 Dominance

Purdue fell to Maryland on Tuesday night by a final score of 70-56, breaking an eight-game winning streak that dated back to January 8th.

Going into Tuesday’s game against Maryland, the Purdue Boilermakers basketball team hadn’t lost a game in over a month. Yet, when the final buzzer sounded at the Xfinity Center in College Park, that was no longer the case. The Terps beat Purdue soundly, 70-56, behind 16 points from Jalen Smith and Bruno Fernando‘s seventh double-double of the season.

Six players from Maryland combined for all 70 of their points, with five of them hitting double figures — starter Daryl Morsell, four points, was the lone Terp to fall below the 10-point mark.

The win for Maryland, now ranked No. 16 by KenPom, was huge and gives them some needed momentum for this weekend’s road game against Michigan (No. 6 via KenPom). Purdue, however, fell for the first time since a January 8th loss against Michigan State.

The Boilermakers were ranked No. 8 by KenPom going into Tuesday’s game but fell only one spot after the loss to No. 9.
