Maryland Wins on Senior Night, Earns Bye in Big Ten Tournament

The Maryland Terrapins men’s basketball program will play their first game in the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday, March 14th.

Maryland’s regular season came to a close on Friday evening with a 69-60 home win over Minnesota. The victory snapped a two-game losing streak for the Terps and will provide a slice of needed momentum going into the conference tournament.

The Terps were led by Anthony Cowan Jr., who scored a team-high 21 points, and freshman Jalen Smith, who chipped in 19 of his own. Both guards hit three three-pointers apiece, while Cowan Jr. led the team with five assists and Smith was tied for a team-high 11 rebounds. Sophomore Bruno Fernando also grabbed 11 boards and had his second double-double in as many games with 11 points.

Darryl Morsell rounded out the double-digit scorers for Maryland, chipping in 10 points, three offensive rebounds, and three assists.

On defense, Maryland held the Gophers to just 38.1 percent shooting.

Being their final home game of the year, the seniors were honored before the game. One of those seniors, longtime big man Ivan Bender, made things extra special by proposing to his girlfriend. You can guess what she said…
