Matt Kemp Hits First HR in Almost 16 Months
Rockies DH Matt Kemp hit a 3-1 pitch over the right-field fence on Saturday night, helping Colorado to a 6-1 victory over San Diego. It was their first home win of the season and the homer for Kemp was a lot of things. Not only was it his first as a member of the Rockies, but it was also hit first in 482 days (15 months, 25 days).

Kemp’s last homer came as a member of the Reds on April 8th, 2019, though his stay in Cincinnati only lasted 20 games before being released. From there, bounced all over — minors with the Mets, spring training with the Marlins — but not back to the majors until the Rockies took a flyer on him right before the 2020 season. With all that, plus having it come less than a year after playing in the 2018 MLB All-Star Game, the dinger must have been extremely gratifying for Kemp.
In five games this season, the 35-year old has reached base six times in 12 ABs and has a 1.278 OPS. Colorado is 5-2.
