Tim Bontemps: “Inevitable” That Carmelo Anthony Will Join LeBron, Lance on Lakers
By now you’ve heard the news…LeBron James is signing a four-year contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. Joining him will be his (now former) arch-rival, Lance Stephenson, as well as the ever-eccentric JaVale McGee (who is now a two-time NBA Champion). Now, according to one NBA writer at The Washington Post, Tim Bontemps, another big-time name could join them: Carmelo Anthony.
It also feels inevitable that, by the time this summer ends, Carmelo Anthony will be a Laker.

Right now, ‘Melo is technically still a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder. However, a lot of people are saying that’s going to be a short-lived marriage. Ben Stinar of Hoops Habit posted on Twitter that “within NBA circles it’s known that Carmelo Anthony is not coming back to OKC.”

If that’s true — and financially, it makes a lot of sense — the door is open for him to join LeBron and company in LA. I assume that if this goes down he’ll have to reach a buy-out with OKC and sign a small (or minimum) deal with the Lakers.
I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that I really hope this happens. After all, the pair of 2003 NBA Draft picks have already won Gold together at the Olympics and have been long-time friends.
