Metta World Peace Pulls Out of BIG3, Cites Coaching Opportunities
Just yesterday, the rosters for the third BIG3 basketball season were announced. Metta World Peace was a co-captain of the Killer 3’s alongside Stephen Jackson and Frank Nitty.
One day later, that’s all changed as the baller formerly known as Ron Artest pulled out of the league.
This would have been his second season in the league.
With his personality and celebrity status, I’m sure there’s no shortage of opportunities for Metta. That said, a few hours after his initial tweet, he revealed that his decision was made because he wants to coach more.
Metta played in the NBA from 1999 until 2014 with six NBA teams, then from 2015 to 2017 with the Los Angeles Lakers. He made one All-Star team (2004) and won an NBA Championship with the Lakers in 2010.
As for the BIG3, they’ll be scrambling to find someone to fill Metta’s spot.
Luckily, the BIG3 combine was loaded with talent and there are plenty of guys who didn’t get drafted.
The third season of the BIG3 starts on the weekend of June 22nd. They’ll be broadcasting on CBS and CBS Sports Network this year.
